Minerals Species: Andradite var. Melanite Garnet.
Location of mineral deposit: New Idria District, San Benito County, California.
Description: Rich specimen of lustrous black andradite garnet (variety melanite) crystals scattered over one face of matrix. The garnet crystals grew in a thin vein and one crystal in the center was so large that it contacted the opposite vein wall.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 5x3x2 cm.
Size of individual crystals: 1-4 mm.
Price: $40 (plus shipping).
