Minerals Species: Zoisite var. Tanzanite*.
Location of mineral deposit: Merelani Hills, western slope of Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region, Tanzania. (This is the Type Locality for the variety *) Click here to see other minerals from Type localities.
Description: Single 14.82 carat crystal of blue-violet tanzanite with no matrix attached. The crystal is terminated is quite transparent. Shows excellent color change when viewed from front (blue-gray) and side (violet). No damage.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 20x15x8 mm.
Size of individual crystals: 20 mm.
