Minerals Species: Zoisite var. Tanzanite*.
Location of mineral deposit: Merelani Hills, western slope of Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region, Tanzania. (This is the Type Locality for the variety *) Click here to see other minerals from Type localities.
Description: Two parallel transparent tanzanite crystals, the blue-violet gem variety of the mineral species zoisite, with lustrous crystal faces and noticeable color shift from blue when viewed from the front to violet when viewed from the side. No damage.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 20x13x12 mm.
Size of individual crystals: 20 mm.
