Detailed information on mineral specimen No. 45187:

Minerals Species: Corundum var. Sapphire.
Location of mineral deposit: Central Highland Belt, near Ratnapura, Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon).
Description: Doubly-terminated translucent colorless sapphire crystal with tapered, hexagonal crystal form and prism faces that have faint crystal growth patterns that resemble striations. This was specimen recovered from an alluvial deposit and the edges show wear, but the crystal form is distinct.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 19x5x4 mm.
Size of individual crystals: 19 mm.
Price: $30 (plus shipping).
