Detailed information on mineral specimen No. 48001:

Minerals Species: Grossular Garnet.
Location of mineral deposit: Pitts-Tenney Quarry, Minot, Androscoggin County, Maine.
Description: Several lustrous dodecahedral orange-brown grossular garnet crystals embedded in quartz. The grossular crystals are exposed in their upper halves, the lower halves alter into the skarn matrix. The specimen was extracted from solid rock, not from a cavity, resulting in minor surface imperfections where the surrounding matrix was removed. Collected in 1959.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 4.5x3.5x3 cm.
Size of individual crystals: 11-20 mm.
Price: $30 (plus shipping).
