Minerals Species: Quartz with phantom-growth zoning.
Location of mineral deposit: Mount Ida, Montgomery County, Arkansas.
Description: Lustrous transparent colorless quartz crystal with dark-gray phantom-growth zone visible inside the crystal. These phantom zones are composed of microscopic fragments of shale that coated early generations of the quartz crystal as it formed. No damage is visible to the unaided eye, minute edge chipping is visible under 20x magnification. Ex. D. Miller collection #M2459, collected in 1986.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 4x2.5x2 cm.
Size of individual crystals: 38 mm
Price: $25 (plus shipping).
