Mineral Species: Spodumene var. Kunzite. Location of origin: Mawi Pegmatite, Nuristan, Afghanistan. Description: Lustrous transparent pink-purple kunzite, the pink gem variety of the mineral spodumene, fully crystallized on all surfaces with minor brown pocket clay included in small crevices. The kunzite has many complex parallel faces that reflect simultaneously. No damage is visible to the unaided eye, but minor damage is visible under 20x magnification. Fluoresces violet under SW UV and fluoresces orange under LW UV illumination. Weight: 13.5 grams. Originally acquired in 1992 from R. Rosenblatt. Overall size: 27x18x17 mm.
