Description of Mineral Specimen for sale No. 81525:

Mineral Species: Tanzanite (blue-violet color change gem variety of Zoisite).
Location of origin: Merelani Hills, western slope of Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region, Tanzania. (Type Locality for Tanzanite) Click here to see other minerals from Type localities.
Description: Wedge-shaped lustrous transparent tanzanite crystal, the trichroic (color change when rotated) blue-violet gem variety of the mineral species zoisite, with brown zone in the base. The tanzanite crystal shows moderate color change blue to violet. Though the crystals are clean and in good condition, a few show damage upon close inspection, but they are minor compared to the relative size of the specimen. Not heat treated. Weight: 81 carats.
Overall size: 38x17x13 mm.
Size of individual crystals: 38 mm
Price: $1500 net (plus shipping).
