Description of Mineral Specimen for sale No. 81870:

Mineral Species: Shigaite on Calcite.
Location of origin: N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, Northern Cape Province, South Africa.
Description: Lustrous dark-red hexagonal platy shigaite crystals (rare hydrated sulfate with hydroxyl), in aggregates to 6 mm across, on lustrous translucent gray rhombic calcite crystals to 11 mm. The shigaite crystals are in three places around the specimen. The specimen formed in a cavity with many similar crystals intersecting in many directions resulting in few or no complete terminations. Ex. Miller collection T2842; ex. Betts #37234; from my personal collection.
Overall size: 30x20x18 mm.
Size of individual crystals: .5-6 mm
Price: $275 (plus shipping).
