Description of Mineral Specimen for sale No. 82203:

Mineral Species: Corundum var. Ruby.
Location of origin: Ihosy District, Fianarantsoa, Madagascar.
Description: Parallel lustrous translucent ruby crystals, the pink-red gem variety of the mineral species corundum, with tabular (flattened) hexagonal form. The broad faces of the ruby crystals has deep color and subtle crystallization patterns on the surfaces. The specimen was extracted from solid rock, not from a cavity, resulting in minor surface imperfections where the surrounding matrix was removed. Fluoresces red under LW UV illumination. Weight: 7.0 grams. Ex. Miller collection T2144; originally acquired ca. 1970.
Overall size: 19x16x7 mm.
Size of individual crystals: 13-19 mm
Price: $24 (plus shipping).
