Description of Mineral Specimen for sale No. 82337:

Mineral Species: Goethite pseudomorphs after Pyrite.
Location of origin: road cut on Rt. 600 (Coffee Pot Road), near Dotsero, Eagle County, Colorado.
Description: Well-defined lustrous brown goethite pseudomorphs after striated cubic pyrite crystals to 16 mm. Pyrite, FeS2, crystallized first, then altered molecule-by-molecule to goethite, Fe3+O(OH), maintaining the original pyrite shape. Pseudomorph = false form. The specimen was extracted from solid rock, not from a cavity, resulting in minor surface imperfections where the surrounding matrix was removed. Ex. Miller collection T3636; ex. Betts #77618; collected in August 1994.
Overall size: 24x18x17 mm.
Size of individual crystals: 4-16 mm pseudos
