| Mineral Species: Artinite and Hydromagnesite. Location of origin: Spring Street at Medford Road, Staten Island, New York City, Richmond County, New York. Description: Superb specimen of acicular white artinite crystals to 5 mm and white hydromagnesite crystals to 3 mm on green serpentine found during construction of a sewer line on Spring Street in Staten Island. The artinite and hydromagnesite fluoresce under UV. No damage. Ex. Hal Kramer collection. Collected ca. 1972. Illustrated in The Minerals of New York City (2009) Rocks & Minerals, vol. 84 # 3, pp. 204-240. Overall size: 14x10x8 cm. Size of individual crystals: 1-5 mm |
