Description of Mineral Specimen for sale No. 336:

Mineral Species: Almandine Garnet.
Location of origin: 26th Street at Sixth Avenue Subway Excavation, Manhattan Island, New York City, New York County, New York.
Description: Large well-exposed transparent-to-translucent red almandine garnet crystals in fine-grained biotite gneiss. The almandine crystals are complex form, the combination of dodecahedral and trapezohedral forms. The specimen was extracted from solid rock, not from a cavity, resulting in minor surface imperfections where the surrounding matrix was removed. Ex. Ken Hogan collection. Collected ca 1935.
Overall size: 9x5.5x3 cm.
Size of individual crystals: 3-25 mm
