Mineral Species: Schorl Tourmaline. Location of origin: Harlem Meer, in the northeast corner of Central Park, New York City, New York County, New York. Description: Partial crystal of lustrous black schorl tourmaline in white albite-quartz. The schorl tourmaline crystal was fractured into multiple sections that were frozen in position in the matrix, with matrix between the sections. Personally collected in 1999 during reconstruction of the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center. Overall size: 8x5x4 cm. Size of individual crystals: 30 mm |
