Locality:Alston Moor, West Cumberland Iron Mining District, Cumbria, England
Description:Highly lustrous dark sphalerite crystals that appear black, but are seen to be translucent brown when viewed under magnification. The sphalerite crystals are large (up to 25 mm) with surfaces composed of smaller, parallel 1-4 mm crystals faces. Ex. Sir George Savage (1842-1921); bequeathed in 1921 to the British Museum
