Description: | Lustrous red-brown trapezohedral almandine garnet crystal in muscovite-quartz matrix. The almandine garnet surfaces are composed of many smaller trapezohedral faces in parallel orientation. I consider this the second-best NYC garnet ever found. Collected by Dietmar Stitz in May 1970 from excavated rock dumped in the NJ Meadowlands. Illustrated in The Minerals of New York City (2009) Rocks & Minerals, vol. 84 # 3, pp. 204-240 |
