Description:Elongated plate of Manhattan Schist with scattered dark wine-red almandine garnet crystals. The almandine crystals stand proud of the schist due to differential weathering — the schist is softer than the hard garnet crystals. Ex. Irving Horowitz collection #NYC1, collected in 1938, with old photo showing him collecting the specimen
