Description:Flat plate of dark-brown goethite with botryoidal formations on the surfaces. Goethite formed by the decomposition of the serpentine bedrock was mined as iron ore on Staten Island beginning in earnest around 1830 and continued until the 1880s. Ex. Perham's of West Paris (Maine)
