Mineral:Fluorite coated with Bitumen plus Calcite
Locality:Minerva #1 Mine, Cave-in-Rock District, Hardin County, Illinois
Description:Translucent yellow fluorite crystals up to 34 mm with a thin surface coating of black bitumen (natural petroleum that can be soaked off with solvents). Many elongated calcite crystals up to 30 mm grew after the bitumen was deposited.
