Mineral:Magnetite with siliceous banding (Taconite formation)
Locality:Mesabi Range, Minnesota
Description:Banded formation known as taconite - the primary iron ore from the Mesabi Range. The dark metallic layers are magnetite, with deep-red siliceous chert between. One face was polished to highlight the banded formation. Ex. David Trevas
