Mineral:Hematite pseudomorphs after Magnetite (var. Martite)
Locality:Durango, Mexico
Description:Classic formation of martite, an obsolete name for these hematite pseudomorphs of octahedral magnetite crystals, with a few calcite crystals that fluoresce under UV illumination. The magnetite crystallized then altered to hematite maintaining the shape. Ex. Larry Krause (1945-2010) collection
