Mineral:Quartz var. Pecos Diamond (rare pseudo-cubic habit)
Locality:Riverside, east of Artesia, Eddy County, New Mexico
Description:Lustrous translucent gray Pecos Diamond, the doubly-terminated variety of quartz found in the Pecos River Valley, exhibiting rare pseudo-cubic habit, with a smaller crystal on the side. The Pecos Diamond is colored by microscopic hematite inclusions. Collected ca. 1990. See article: What’s New in Minerals in Mineralogical Record v.22 #5 (Sept.-Oct. 1991)
