Locality:Betts Manganese Mine, Plainfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts
Description:Lustrous transparent brown garnet crystals on one face of greenish quartz. Often misidentified as almandine garnet (iron-rich), the are obviously spessartine garnet (manganese-rich) because of the manganese-rich environment: it is a manganese mine.

Crystals:0.4-1.4 mm
