Mineral:Quartz var. Smoky Quartz (Dauphiné Law Twins) on Microcline and Albite
Locality:Moat Mountain, west of North Conway, Carroll County, New Hampshire
Description:Large lustrous transparent dark smoky quartz crystals to 85 mm on blocky white microcline crystals to 40 mm and late-growth bladed pale-green albite crystals to 8 mm. Note the distinct suture patterns indicating twinning following the Dauphiné Law. Restored. Ex. Tim Sherburn; originally acquired from Don Olson; collected by Ernie Schlichter (1929 -2007) private collection
